Sometimes life gets overwhelming and it seems that I can barely get my head above water. When that’s happening, I’m definitely not dreaming. Instead I’m in survival mode and not able to see the possibilities in my life. I can get that way from time to time just from being overly busy. The holiday season is often one of those times. However, there were times when my kids were little that I was in overwhelm as well. Now that I’ve entered life as an empty nester, I find that I have the time and the capacity to dream again and it feels really incredible to dream about those possibilities that are before me.
What does that dreaming look like? Well, recently I’ve been doing a lot of dreaming about my new practice space in Enlighten Wellness. I’m dreaming about how amazing it will be to work around other holistic providers and to create new programs and workshops in this new space. I’m also dreaming about not having to clean my house every time a client is coming for a session.
The thing is that I’ve begun to find the space in my life to dream for me again. While I was raising my kids, I dreamed a lot, but those dreams often revolved around my kids and family life. Now, my dreams are more focused in a different direction.
When was the last time that you took time to dream for yourself? What would your dreams for you look like right now? Do those questions sound impossible and selfish? Do you feel like you don’t even know where to start?
When you’ve focused so much of your life on other people, it can be very difficult to change your direction. However, it’s those dreams that help you to try for something new, to grow into a new and hopefully better version of yourself. Those dreams can feed your soul and give you reasons to move forward again. If you’ve been focused on other people for a long time, I’m sure you’ll still have that in your life. However, by pivoting just a bit so that your dreams include you as well, you’ll be able to better serve yourself as well as the others in your life.
Without dreams we can be stagnant. We can get so settled into our routine that we forget to look at other possibilities that might be even better for us.
As a parent so many of our own dreams get put on hold. Begin to dream for yourself again. Notice what happens in your body and your thoughts. Maybe those dreams won’t come true, but maybe they just might.
