A bit more about my journey
Last week, I gave you a little bit of the story behind why I’m a yoga therapist. Today, I want to share a bit more of my journey & about why I work with empty nester moms.
I’ve been through this transition from full-time mom to empty nester mom and I found it confusing and unsettling. When your last child leaves the house, it’s something that you often know is coming. If they’ve graduated high school with plans to continue on to college, then you have a date in the future when you know that your child will move out.
This journey can seem so sudden
However, the moment when you become an empty nester can seem as sudden as the day that you became a mom. One moment you were pregnant and the next you had your child in your arms & you were a mom. Over the space of a breath, life has changed.
This happens when your child leaves home as well. One moment you’re making sure that they’ve done everything they need to do and helped them pack and move. The next moment you’re saying goodbye and leaving them at school while you return home. Your life has suddenly changed again!
This life change can be welcomed and dreaded at the same time. That’s both okay and normal. You want your child to succeed in life but you don’t know what to do with yourself in this new normal. You don’t know yourself anymore without your child around.
This knowledge may hit you right away or maybe its months later. Either way, when this happens it’s a difficult realization to have.
I didn’t know myself anymore
The moment when I realized that I didn’t really know myself anymore was an important moment for me. You see up until that moment, I wasn’t even aware of what I had been doing in my life. I had been going along scheduling everything around my kids and not paying a bit of attention to myself in the process.
So, that moment when I realized that I didn’t know myself anymore, I was devastated. I didn’t even know where to begin to get to know myself again.
It’s taken a lot of self-study and inquiry to get to know what I want and don’t want for this next stage of my life. During this process, I dove into learning about yoga therapy & understood myself more in the process. I uncovered the fact that I really like to help other women through major life transitions. I also decided to start my own business. Both of these were important decisions for me!
You don’t have to go through this life transition alone!
Just as you would expect, major life transitions can be very hard to navigate. Having someone with you to support you through the transition is key to helping you get through it with more ease.
I had my yoga therapy training to help me reconnect to myself and to help me decide what I wanted my next steps to be as an empty nester.
So many moms don’t have that though. Most moms I know go through this transition on their own confused and sad that their lives have taken this huge shift. Like me, they’ve devoted many years to raising their kids and now they just don’t know what to do with themselves.
Does any of this sound familiar?
I often hear moms say things like…
I don’t have any hobbies and I don’t even know what I might like to do.
I don’t know what to do with my free time now that I don’t have to be a taxi for my kids.
The dreams that I used to have don’t fit me anymore.
I remember thinking these things as well!
I don’t like the idea of moms going through this major life transition without support if they want it or need it. So, my goal now is to provide that support for other moms.
You might not know where to start in order to get to know yourself again, but I do. I’ve been through this transition with myself & with others. I know how to begin to reconnect you to yourself, your hopes, your desires, and your dreams. It’s a process that once you learn it, you can continue to use it as you go through your life’s journey.
I get so excited when a mom tells me that she’s figured out her next step. To go from being stuck to taking action is life changing.
That’s what I want for more moms. You deserve to do something for yourself now that you aren’t putting all of your efforts into raising your children. It’s my passion to help you do just that. I want to help ease this transition for you because I had help easing my own transition. It’s my way of paying it forward.
I’ll be running a live round of my signature program, Who Am I Now?, starting in February. Join me and uncover your hopes, dreams and goals for this stage of your life. Your journey is not over just because your kids have left home. It’s your turn to thrive again!
