Ok, I admit it.  I like my life to have a schedule to it.  I know what to expect and I can make changes ahead of time if I need to do so.  A schedule gives me a sense of order and predictability.  When I have a schedule I can plan accordingly.  Last minute changes to my schedule are not always welcome. While I understand that changes to my schedule are sometimes necessary, they aren’t always easy to make.  So, yes I like order and a plan when I can get it.

For the past 2 weeks, my schedule has been thrown out of the window.  My house is being painted on the outside.  Before it could be painted of course some repairs had to be made.  As with any project like this, once you start it you find more issues than expected.  This creates delays or just takes extra time.  We’ve finally moved past that repair stage and are in the middle of the actual painting of the house.  It’s getting close to being finished.  Yay!

My daughter has always thrived on knowing what is happening next.  She’s a big planner and don’t mess with her plan.  It’s times like this, that I realize I’m a bit like that.  I’m not as extreme as she is, but my schedule gives me the outline for the day.  I function inside of it just fine.  When little kinks get thrown into the schedule, it takes me a moment to adjust.  I will adjust and be fine.  Just let my brain and body catch up to the new plan.

For 2 weeks, my schedule has been interrupted over and over again.  I’m starting to feel like it’s time to just sit back and let someone else tell me what to do for the day because whatever I plan isn’t going to work out.  It’s a bit frustrating to have things I want and need to do but not be able to get them done.

I think that’s partly why I like a schedule.  It’s not only about knowing what’s going to happen during my day, but it’s also about that feeling of accomplishment.  If I have a set amount of things to do during the day and I get them done without too much difficulty, then I feel like I’ve accomplished a goal.  Silly, probably, but it works for me.

That’s all that matters, really.  Finding what works for yourself is so very helpful.  I know that not everyone thrives on a schedule like I do.  For some people having a schedule every day drives them crazy.  Maybe you’re one of those people who likes to just wake up and see where the day takes you.  I like those days too.  As long as I know in advance that’s what I’m doing.  I know that kind of takes the fun out of it, but again, I know what works for me.

Those last minute changes to the schedule are what get me most.  It’s like my brain says ‘ok, let’s make the change’ and my body says ‘hold on, give me a minute or 10 to catch up’.  I cope fine with those changes, it just takes me a bit to get there.

So, for the past 2 weeks,  I’ve had quite a few last minute changes due to the house painting/repair.  There’s been multiple delays because of so many rainy days and then the multitude of issues that arise with any project like this.   It feels like my schedule keeps getting shifted by other people and the weather and I’m constantly trying to catch up to the new schedule.  I can only imagine how hard it is to take on a project larger then this.

I didn’t come to this realization all of a sudden that I like a schedule in my life.  I’ve known this for awhile.  It’s just been pointed out to me again with this project.  I’ve spent a lot of time over the past 5-6 years exploring what makes me tick.  All of the trainings that I take for yoga and yoga therapy lead me to deepen that exploration.  I’ve learned to observe, accept, look at my choices and live by my truth whenever I can.

Living by my truth right now would be to go back to a schedule that doesn’t get interrupted so often.  And, that time is coming in just a few more days.  I’ll have at least a week to enjoy it before my son comes home for Spring Break and then that schedule goes out the window again.  That’s what I call life.

If you’re ready to explore the reasons you do some of the things you do so that you can make changes in your life, then schedule a yoga therapy session with me.  You’ll learn so much about yourself and be empowered to take action that works for you.
