Gratitude in 2020

As we all know, 2020 has been quite a year! There have been so many ups & downs, twists & turns that I’ve cried ‘uncle’ more than once. Every time that I think I’ve figured out the newest shift, something else has happened & I’m back to adjusting to a new normal again. Despite all of the unexpectedness that has come with his year, gratitude in 2020 is still a thing for me.

Why I practice gratitude in 2020…

I practice gratitude every day. I start and end my day with 3 things that I’m grateful are in my life. It helps me to highlight & remember all of the good that is happening. It also keeps me from wallowing in the things that I can’t control.

This year it would be easy to skip this practice & spend extra time complaining about how so many things have gone off-track. Along with everyone else, I’ve felt the added anxiety & uncertainty in my daily life. With all of this extra anxiety & uncertainty in the air, it’s even more important to me to practice gratitude daily.

Skipping my gratitude practice would lead to more negativity in my life & I don’t want to go down that path of negativity! It just doesn’t lead me anywhere good.

Its not all sunshine & happiness

We each have all of the emotions within us. We can accept the negativity in us & still be grateful about some things at the same time. Practicing gratitude doesn’t mean that I’m ignoring those other less grateful parts of myself. It simply means that I’m purposefully focusing on some parts of my life and showing appreciation for them

For example, I can be grateful that my kids are safe and sad that they aren’t living in the same state as me right now. Both the gratitude and the sadness exist within me at the same time. Practicing gratitude doesn’t negate the sadness. The gratitude simply helps me to bring my focus to the good things in my life.

So, I choose to be grateful this year.

Some of the things on my gratitude list for this Thanksgiving

1- All of my clients, near & far, who trust me to help them on their health & wellness journeys

2 – All of my friends who have supported me this year through the ups & down, twists & turns

3 – My health. I’ve stayed pretty healthy this year and I’m so grateful for that!!

4 – All of the unexpected opportunities that have come my way this year

5 – My time outdoors that heals me and gives me such great ideas

6 – A new beginning in my life as I live on my own for the first time

7 – Having a job (or 3) that I’ve been able to continue through this pandemic

8 – Being able to see clients in person as well as online

9 – The completion of 900 hours of training to achieve a new level of certification in Yoga Therapy

10 – The many students that I’ve had the joy to work with this year
