Now that I’ve turned 50, I’m looking at life just a little bit differently. I appreciate all the life experiences that got me to this point. I’m excited to be where I am in life right now. I also believe that there is still so much more life to live and I can’t wait to see where I go next. I know that I’m not done & I have more accomplishments waiting for me. I can only do that if I age healthier and live happier.
I believe that life doesn’t have to decline as we get older. I also believe that a lot of your life is created by your own beliefs. You can create a healthier & happier life. It is a choice that you make every day.
How do you age healthier and happier?
A lot of aging well is mental. Yes, you need to take care of your physical body but your mental health is just as important. So, here are three of my favorite ways to age healthier and happier. Two of them are about your mental health & one is about your physical health.
1 – Life is allowed to be easy.
All too often, we make life harder than it has to be.
Speaking from my own personal experience, I was taught that I had to work hard at something in order for it to be worthwhile. This has led to a lot of overwork on so many things. I’ve put so much pressure on myself to perform better, accomplish this or that or even to keep up with those infamous Jones’ that live next door.
I’ve decided that in order to age healthier and live happier, I need to put this to rest.
Life is allowed to be easy!
Yes, you can do your best at whatever you do, but that doesn’t mean that you always have to choose the most difficult route. You can get assistance when you need it and yes, it is okay to ask for help! You can choose the easy route. That doesn’t mean that you didn’t do your best. Instead it means that you choose to be happier by not making your life so difficult.
2 – Move your body more often.

As you age, the idea of use it or lose it is so true. In order to age healthier and live happier, you have to at least maintain if not improve your physical body. Life happens. You sit at desks for too long or spend more time raising your kids than you do taking care of yourself. This doesn’t have to continue though.
I have a lot of relatives who live into their 90s and even reach 100 years old. I really don’t want to live that long if I’ve not taken care of my body! So, what do I choose instead? To continue to move my body in ways that help me to age healthier and live happier. No, that doesn’t mean that you have to take up running if your knees won’t be able to handle it. What it does mean is that you need to find some type of activity that you enjoy and do it!
The key is that every little bit helps. It doesn’t have to be hours every day. Even a 2 Minute Stretch Break can bring amazing benefits to your body.
Move it or lose it. The choice is yours.
3 – Take time for yourself & recharge
In order to age healthier and live happier you have to take time for yourself and recharge. What does that mean? Well, each person is different but it means that you have some activities that build you up & refresh you and other activities that wear you out & deplete you.
I know that there are times when you absolutely have to do things that aren’t going to excite you. Honor your commitments. Take care of your families. Be the adult in the room.
Then, take some time for yourself. Whatever it is that recharges you, make sure that you include it in your life on a frequent basis. Whether it’s spending time with friends, reading a book or spending time out in nature, the choice is yours.
Find something that recharges you and do it frequently.
You CAN age healthier and live happier.
The choice is yours and yours alone. Only you can make the decision to take small steps to feel better as you age. Remember to let life be easy at least some of the time, move your body & recharge whenever you can. These three things will make such a difference as you age!
It’s time to live healthier and happier!
