I’ve heard so many reasons why people need yoga in their lives, and there’s a reason for that. You see, yoga has been around for thousands of years. Yes, it’s changed a lot in that time but it’s roots run very deep.
Because of this very long history, the study of yoga can be a lifelong process. It doesn’t have to be complicated though.
I’m going to simplify it for you today. Read on for 3 simple reasons why people need yoga in their life.
1 – A Healthy Mind
Your mind is always going & this is a normal occurrence. Let me repeat that. This is normal!
Your thoughts will jump from topic to topic as you move throughout your day. All of this jumping around from thought to thought is how your mind entertains itself all day long. This is what a mind does when it’s not been trained to do otherwise.
People often tell me how hard it is to focus or concentrate on something. Their minds are going constantly & this make it difficult to slow down to focus on one thing for very long.
You CAN shift this. You don’t have to let your mind be a place of constant activity. You’ll never stop your mind’s thoughts, but you can slow them down. It’s in the slowing down that you can get some clarity and relief from the constant mind chatter.
How do you do this? How do you slow down the thoughts?
Mindfulness is the answer and it’s a big part of yoga. A mindfulness practice is a way to bring your focus to one thing. It might last for two breaths or it might last for 10 minutes. Either way, with mindfulness you are slowing down your mind to focus on one thing at a time.
It’s the slowing down of the mind that will give you a chance to take a deep breath & just be. You can think more clearly and you’ll feel less stressed and anxious.
Practicing mindfulness is a great way to exercise your mind and keep it healthy!
2 – A Healthy Body
Over the past several decades, yoga has become common not just in the U. S. but in many places throughout the world. There’s a reason for that. Yoga is well known as a way to exercise your body.
Each yoga pose that you do in a yoga class has multiple benefits for your body. A yoga pose might help you to build strength, flexibility or stamina (often all 3 at once). Yoga poses can help you to improve your balance. These poses can help you to lose weight, get stronger & just feel better about your body.
I know that you can’t always make it to an hour long yoga class and enjoy all of these benefits. The good news is that you don’t have to do that. A daily 10-15 minute yoga practice has tremendous benefits for your body and won’t take up too much of your day. A consistent yoga practice is the best way to reap the many benefits of yoga for your body.
So, get down on the floor & do a few yoga stretches, try a balance posture or even work on your strength with a plank. Whatever you choose, give your body the gift of some yoga every day!
3 – A Healthy Spirit
Time on my yoga mat is a cure for so many things!
People need yoga in their lives to help them get through the day to day stresses that are always showing up. I’m no different. When I’m stressed, anxious or worried, some time on my yoga mat helps me to clear my head of all of those things.
Your spirit needs to be just as healthy as your mind and body.
Yoga can help you regain a sense of well-being whenever life has gotten overwhelming. Plus, the more you practice yoga, the more your spirit can handle life’s ups & downs that will inevitably show up for you. You’ll become more resilient with each yoga practice that you do. In fact, the effects of your yoga practice will build with each practice. Just like each time you go for a run your body will be stronger, each time you show up to your yoga class or step onto your yoga mat at home, you’ll be strengthening your spirit.
People need yoga!
Whether you initially want to improve your mind, body or spirit, there is a yoga practice for you.
Happily, yoga is more accessible than ever before. You can take a class in person or online. You can work in groups or on your own and you can do a vigorous practice or one that is slow & calming. Your yoga practice can be just what you need it to be.
I believe that there is a yoga practice for everyone!
Whether you are young or old, new to the practice or you’ve practiced for decades, there is a yoga practice that will help you to have a healthy mind, body & spirit. The trick is to find the practice that is right for you.
I always suggest learning from someone with experience especially if you have any limitations. A good yoga teacher or therapist will help guide you in a practice that is just right for you.
I absolutely LOVE working with people who are curious about yoga but don’t think that they can do it because of age, limitations or injury. If this is you, then let’s chat about your goals & dreams. Sign up for a free discovery call. Let’s discuss how a yoga practice could help you to achieve them. I would be honored to help you bring a consistent yoga practice into your life.
A healthy mind, body & spirit takes practice to maintain. It likely won’t all happen with just one yoga practice, but with time, you will begin to improve your mind, body & spirit.
